Unify log locations for SmarterMail

Hello!

We`ve noticed the following issue: although you can set the "Log Path" under the Troubleshooting -> Log Files area, this is only set for some log files and not all of them. Namely, there are some log files under Drive:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\MRS\App_Data\Logs which are always saved there regardless of the "Log Path" we set. Only the logs that are originally under Drive:\SmarterMail\Logs will actually move to the location we set.

I think that it would be better to unify the logs and save them all in one place for multiple reasons:
  1. Logic: one should know that in a particular place can find all of the logs. Until we discovered that there are 2 locations, we were looking for some logs and could not find them because we looked in the wrong place.
  2. Space concerns: the SmarterTools folder under Program Files kept increasing in size during operation even though we did not upgrade for a month and the culprit are the logs which are saved there and cannot be moved to another location. Now that we know this, we have to manualy keep an eye on this and periodically move the logs to another location. By the way, we`ve set the XMPP logging to "Exceptions Only" but the "date-bosh-xmpp.log" files are huge (700MB - 900MB per day!) - is this normal?
  3. Disk performance: we store different types of data on different types of storage - in this case, we would like to store logs on cheaper storage than where we store the application or the mail data. We can do this for half the logs, but not for the ones under Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\MRS\App_Data\Logs

Hopefully the logs can be consolidated in a single location which can be set by the server administrator.

Hello, 

In the logs are you only seeing exceptions being thrown or is it showing the detailed communications between the agents? If they are all exceptions that this would be working as designed and the exceptions would need to be handled. If you are getting the detailed responses then we can take a look over your settings. Make sure the log is set to 'Exception  Only' in the config file and go from there.

I`m not sure if these are exceptions or not, but I do not think so. And these just go on and on - each log is 600 - 900 MB in size.

In the web interface the XMPP log is set to Exceptions Only. In the Program Files\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\Settings\settings.json file I can see this:
"xmpp_log_level": 1000,
(not sure if this is exceptions only or not)

Dear SmarterMail Support,

Even we are observing 1.5 GB Sized XMPP logs on daily basis. We have checked the settings and it is Set to 'Exception Only'. We prefer having MRS & Spool on SSD and having XMPP logs created on the same drive is unnecessary. All Logs should be created at Single location.

We are using SmarterMail Enterprise 100.0.7593.31148 (Oct 15, 2020)

There were two XMPP related logs. One that could be accessed through the web interface and used the log level settings therein.  The other log was specifically for bosh-xmpp traffic as Ionel Aurelian Rau recorded above.  That second log is a redundant log with no web interface tie.  We have already eliminated that logging to that redundant log in the next public release.
